Jay Leno is fired up and ready to return to the stand-up stage, just days after being released from Los Angeles’ Grossman Burn Center.
On Sunday, Leno appeared at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California, for a show where he joked about the incident.
“I never thought of myself as a roast comic,” the former talk show host quipped as he arrived at the event. “We have two shows tonight: regular and extra crispy.”
He went on, “I feel good. Thanks, you guys.”
One observer told NBC News after the appearance that Leno “looked great and he had a lot of stamina.”
Another person revealed to the outlet that the “Jay Leno’s Garage” star was “full of energy” during the stand-up set and “told joke after joke after joke.”
Leno was admitted to the Grossman Burn Center on Nov. 12 after enduring painful burns on his face, chest and hands in the fire.
“Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning,” Dr. Peter Grossman, medical director at the Grossman Burn Center, said in a statement after the trauma.
He continued: “I do anticipate him making a full recovery. Whether they’ll be remnants of this injury, it’s still too early to tell. I’d say that his injuries are serious, his condition is good.”
The hospital also noted in a statement: “Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes.”
He seemed to be in high spirits, even teasing that he “needs barbecue” to reporters as he pulled into his garage.
“Hangin’ in! Everything’s fine — everything’s good,” Leno replied to photographers who asked him how he was doing.
Leno’s pal Jerry Seinfeld recently gave an update on his friend on Nov. 24, during his appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
“I talked to Jay yesterday. He’s doing great,” the “Seinfeld” star, 68, divulged.
He continued: “I get on the phone with Jay . . . This is how crazy Jay is, he’s completely crazy. He doesn’t want sympathy. You know how he is, he’s beast mode. He’s like [football running back] Marshawn Lynch.”
Seinfeld then recollected how he asked Leno about his health condition and the “Popular Mechanics” columnist changed the subject to talking about the weather.
Brooklyn native Seinfeld joked: “He said, ‘I’m good. I heard there was a lot of snow. Was there a lot of snow back East?’ ”
